China Science Daily is the only news media unit affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences that has been approved by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. It possesses the special publishing and distribution rights to host newspapers and periodicals, the management rights of reporters and reporter stations, and the advertising operation rights.
Currently, the newspaper office boasts two newspapers ("China Science Daily" and "Medical Science Daily"), one website (ScienceNet), two magazines ("Science News" and "Science New Life"), and a matrix of mobile new media platforms. Additionally, China Science Daily has established correspondent offices in multiple provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country, and has forged partnerships with nearly a hundred renowned universities in China.
On January 1, 1959, the predecessor of China Science Daily, Science News, was founded in Beijing, making it the earliest science and technology newspaper in China. On January 1, 1989, it was renamed China Science Daily. On January 1, 1999, it was renamed Science Times, and on January 1, 2012, it was renamed back to China Science Daily. China Science Daily is under the supervision of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the China Association for Science and Technology. It is published five times a week, printed in color, and distributed publicly nationwide.
ScienceNet (www.sciencenet.cn) was launched on January 18, 2007, with the mission to "build a global Chinese scientific community". It enjoys a relatively high reputation in the scientific and educational circles. Currently, ScienceNet ranks around 4,000th among global websites and within the top 500 among Chinese websites, firmly securing its position as the top Chinese science and technology website globally.
